Ice magic

This is a portion of the ice block, taken out of the freezer box of our Whirlpool - Icemagic fridge after de-frosting the machine for 12 hours. What you see in engalblog (blog dated 23 Nov 2009), is an edited version of this photo!

Do this a few times and it is likely your plate will develop a crack if it is of the low nickel - manganese stabilised SS.

Anony - do you mean that the stainless steel plate - if made out of a different composition, it would develop cracks - when exposed to lower temperatures frequently?

It is true cycling at low temperatures are likely to result in cracks at stress concentration points - especially when they happen to be shapes pressed in draw out dies or wired edges.

There are no stress-relieving operations for the SS plates?

Pressed articles are not subjected to any heat treatment unless they form part of an aeroplane.
