The English get Madras Patnam from Ayyapa Naicker.
1640 Francis Day and Cogan landed with 25 Europeans.

Board were annexed to the city.

part of Aminjikarai Panchayat Board were annexed.

was also annexed to the city.

No idea of the date but Nesappakkam became corporation area and part of it was rechristined "Kanu Nagar" in honour of the doctor who treated MGR in his last days.

I dont recall the years but various flyovers started appearing in Chennai sometime. This should be a notable development.

To think that there is no addition after 1988 is disconcerting.

Between the last date mentioned and now,

Many educational institutions have been established in and around Chennai.

The inner ring road had been opened for traffic.

First Veterinary University had been opened.

Smoking in public places had been banned

Plastics below a specified thickness had been banned

Many notable shopping centres had come up.

Automobile and ancillary Industries have grown routes here to call Chennai the Detroit of India.

In the specified period, Railways changed over to Broad gauge, Tracks were doubled in the paths leading to and fro the city.

Construction activity in the coastal areas were redefined.

On 22 August 1639, Francis Day of the British East India Company obtained a small strip of land in the Coramandal Coast from the Vijayanagara King, Peda Venkata Raya (a.k.a. Venkata III) in Chandragiri. The region was under by the Damerla Venkatapathy, Nayak of Vandavasi.The permission was to build a factory and warehouse for their trading activities.....
